Hi, I’m Miriam — The Garden Mama
My love for gardening began at a young age, watching (and sometimes helping) my mother tend her beautiful beds at home. Once I’d learned the basics, we dug a patch of earth next to hers that I could make my own. I filled it with flowers that delighted me, creating a colorful little patch that grew more from joy than from any plan.
Over the years, my early enthusiasm grew into a deep respect for the ways plants shape our lives. When I became a mother myself, I noticed that the nurturing values gardening had been teaching me — patience, care, wonder, and a willingness to let things unfold naturally — showed up in how I parented my children. Both gardening and motherhood showed me that a thriving life has little to do with control; it’s shaped by relationships, the living connections that tie us to each other and to the world outside our door.
That's what inspired me to create The Garden Mama. I wanted to share my belief that gardening doesn't require confidence so much as curiosity, and that joy is just as important to the process as the flowers themselves. A beautiful garden isn't about perfection; it's about nurturing life — yours, your loved ones, and your world — one season at a time.
Designed for You.
In Tune with Nature.
Native plants belong to this place — they’ve grown alongside our local wildlife and weather for ages, creating quiet relationships that help everything thrive. I use them as the foundation of my designs because they tend to feel natural, welcoming, and easy to care for.
I also include well-behaved non-native plants when they bring something meaningful — a particular color, a texture you love, or a bit of personal history — as long as they’re non-invasive (plants that play nicely with our local landscape and won’t crowd out the species that are native to this place).
My goal is to design gardens that reflect who you are and where you live — spaces that grow with you, offer gentle beauty through the seasons, and welcome the life that belongs here, bringing a little more connection into your everyday moments.
The Garden Mama Process
Every project begins with a conversation. I’ll meet you at your home, walk your space with you, and learn about your goals and the way you want to feel outdoors.
From there, we’ll move at your pace — with clear guidance, thoughtful collaboration, and no pressure.
We’ll walk your property together, talk about your ideas, and notice the soil, light, and overall character of your space so I can recommend plants that will thrive there.
Personal Garden Consultation
I’ll create a personalized planting plan that brings your vision to life, drawing primarily from native plants and thoughtfully weaving in well-behaved non-natives when they support your style, color palette, or memories.

Rooted in Greater Hartford
Having grown up in West Hartford myself, I’m grateful to be back in the community that shaped me and proud to support homeowners across the Greater Hartford region. Every yard here has its own personality, and I love helping neighbors discover the plants that bring them joy — and what grows naturally in the place they call home.
